Open House Night!

Oh my, how I love Open House night!  A few nights ago I was able to meet almost all of my 23 kids for the year.  It's so much fun to see the excitement of both the kids and their parents as they come into the classroom for the first time.  I know they are hoping, just like me, to make this a great year.

So to ease their stress, I make this a fun, easy experience (no labeling or sorting on this day!).  They simply have to choose a desk, drop off their supplies, and then answer a few survey questions, which we we use during our first few days.  They provide all kinds of information as we get to know one another better and help with our beginning of the year graphing.  Of course they also get to tour the room and say hello to old and new friends.  Here's a look at the how the surveys look so far...

It will be fun to use them for some community building the first few days of school.  We might even sneak a little math in there!

I also had a fun spinner on the board in hopes of generating some good feelings before the year ever begins.  I can't wait to see them all on the first day tomorrow!
